Experimental bird game launch!

I had this idea of a game where the character is a real bird that you can control in a map made of videos of nature landscapes.
Here is a first result !

This is a very experimental project for me, starting from when I had this idea two years ago.  When trying to film birds in a park with my phone, I saw them moving in and out of the screen, like the characters in old 2d RPGs, who navigate a world of immobile sceneries.

I then started to make this game where the filmed birds become playable characters in their natural environment.

I can describe a bit the process I went through:
I filmed ducks with my phone, and made some video work to get their movements to fit in rectangle screens. They always enter the sequence from the middle point of one of the sides, and leave it by another side.
I then assembled this videos in a 3 x 4 grid, of grass and water videos.

I learned how to code some basics movements to control a character with the keyboard to navigate without stopping in this grid. Then, I made a code that controls the playing of the videos so that the moving duck gets played where the moving character is.

My goal was give the illusion that we control the bird, and I got to a result that I like enough to publish this first version here :)

I  learned a lot of coding working on this project, and this first launch has quite messy and complicated code. I'd love to learn to code a bit more cleanly to get a final file with smaller size,  as I build the next bits of this project.

I'm currently working on creating a new scene, where we control birds flying in the sky, that I will post when done !

I hope that you'll find it strange and fun to play this game, and that you'll keep in touch for future updates!
